Eldrich Cathedral

“I cannot forget Carcosa where black stars hang in the heavens; where the shadows of men's thoughts lengthen in the afternoon, when the twin suns sink into the lake of Hali; and my mind will bear for ever the memory of the Pallid Mask.”
Here's my final major project in my last year at USW. It is a cathedral that's been corrupted by an entity from the Cthulhu/Lovecraftian mythos named 'Hastur', or 'The king in Yellow'. Before becoming an madness-inducing eldritch horror in Lovecraftian fiction Hastur began life as a benevolent god of shepherds in Ambrose Bierce's "Haïta the Shepherd". I have made reference to this through the shepherd's crook in the statue's hand and again in the stained glass where Hastur is depicted with a sheep and again, a shepherd's crook.
This was my first real attempt at a modular environment textured with trims and tileable materials and I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out given the time limit of 6 weeks. As you can probably tell it was very heavily inspired by the soulsborne games as well as games such as Divinity Original Sin. Had I had more time I would have liked to flesh the place out with grotesques, damaged cloth, etc. I also didn't end up finding a use for my tentacle texture which, other than the trim sheet, took the most time to make. I'll most likely come back to this environment in the future and improve all of these areas.

Materials. Unfortunately I never found a use for the tentacles.
